Sol Matas

Sol Matas is a type designer, font production specialist, and educator based in Berlin. She designs multi-script typefaces (Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, Devanagari, Oriya) and collaborates with designers and foundries worldwide. After a period at Saatchi & Saatchi, she set out on her own and eventually gave herself fully to type, exploring the history and meaning within each writing system. She co-founded Practica Program with Nicole Dotin, guiding new designers through the rewarding and messy process of making type. Active in the type community, she has served on the TDC board, judged international design awards, and contributes to Alphabettes and Typographica.
